Samantha Myer | Letting Go of Loss and Designing a Life of Love
Meet Samantha Myer — wardrobe stylist, designer, and creator behind Samantha Myer Studio based in Los Angeles. She shares her journey of styling the stars, healing from the inside out, and discovering the magic in getting to know yourself. (Don’t miss the exclusive & extra cozy gift!)
Share a little bit about your current work.
Currently, I am focusing on my design career but I have also had a wardrobe styling business since 2012.
What problem do you strive to solve?
What is a defining moment that drew a clear before & after line in the sand for you? How did it “light the way” for you going forward?
One of my first styling jobs was for Alicia Keys and the launch of "Girl on Fire."
I was dressing her for a private concert she was putting on for her charity, Keep a Child Alive, at The Red Rooster in Harlem, and she invited me to go with her and her family. I remember how excited she was about the Stella McCartney top that fringed underneath the juxtaposed leather vest I styled over it.
It was a magical evening.
During a Q&A with the audience, one of the questions was, “If you could give any advice to younger Alicia, what would it be?' Alicia said, “I would tell her that it's not about where you came from.. where you are now... It's all about the journey."
I was 22 years old, had dropped out of college, came from a broken family.
This exact moment was the first time I realized that the things I thought were holding me back from achieving my dreams were actually the EXACT things that were driving me there.
Those words forever changed my life, my trajectory, and my values.
What is a piece of advice would you give your younger self?
What you think makes you weird and different are actually the coolest things about you.
What currently inspires and empowers you?
Female empowerment.
Through my work, I feel like I've energetically connected with some really amazing women, and being each other's cheerleaders is one of the most beautiful things and SO necessary.
What is new and good in your world that you’re eager to share?
MY PAPASWEATER!
I created a piece this season that is basically a blanket, sweater, and jacket all in one. It’s truly a giant hug.
It has been so incredible to see how much joy it brings to people.

When do you feel most alive?
Surfing or doing things that scare me. We teach ourselves time and time again how we are capable of ANYTHING we set our minds to.
What do you consider to be healing?
There are certain things I will NEVER regret doing.. yoga, cooking for myself, or cleaning. Healing the mind, body, and soul.
If you could pick one song to play every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
What’s your ideal way to start & end your day?
Sunrise and sunset at the beach. Yoga. Those are my happiest days.
What kind of role does community play in your life? Which organizations or efforts do you appreciate and wish more people knew about?
Everything. What you watch, who you follow, what you read.. all becomes part of your community which is why it's so important to surround yourself with the people that inspire you.
A Caring Hand is an organization I have been part of for almost six years. It's a nonprofit for children who have lost a parent or sibling. Having experienced a loss of this kind, I was inspired to make a difference and raise awareness of A Caring Hand's work and mission.
It also built me a network of some of the most badass individuals who have also experienced loss. It gives my work and mission a purpose that is way bigger than myself and reminds me that the hardest days are worth fighting for.
Leave us with a ray of light. A simple reminder that grounds you or helps you through.
You have to be willing to get happy about nothing before you can be happy with everything.

Founder’s Note:
When I moved to a new town at around 11 years old, Sam, her mom, and the *best* Golden Retriever named Luke walked up the street to introduce themselves to us. In the past 20 years, we've starred in humorous dance recitals, eaten lots of break-and-bake cookies, engaged in very-important pep talks during our brief time as a dynamic pitcher-catcher duo, giggled a little too much for some of our teachers' liking, and suffered through growing pains.
We've gone through periods of not talking very much followed by long catch-ups that take us right back to where we left off, and then inspire us with where we may want to go next. Thinking of the loss of Sam’s dad sinks my stomach the same way it did when we were kids. But seeing Sam design the life of her dreams is hope and grace personified. She sees love in everything, most importantly - in herself, and inspires everyone around her to do the same.
Sam — thank you for letting me share the story of you. Je t'aime, ma chérie!
Purple Thread Friends — for all that is good, please (!!) surround yourself with people that make you laugh and remind you that if nothing else, life is an adventure. Enjoy your cozy Papasweater. I know it’ll make you smile.
Be well,
Danielle
